What is Local SEO?

Regular search vs. map search
Most are familiar with organic search engine results, but did you know that local businesses can also reap the benefits of showing up in the “Local Map Pack”?

It's not as complicated as it sounds. It's about making sure when people search for what you offer in your area, your business shows up in the Google Map Pack.

The map pack appears at the top of Google's search results. It shows three or more local businesses related to a user's search. For instance, searching “HVAC Edmonton” displays the top three HVAC services nearby.
This is the Map Pack. Three local businesses sit above everything else, with ratings, hours and a call button already attached.

Optimizing your website for Google Maps is crucial for business success

Optimizing your website for 'Near Me' searches to significantly boost your business visibility. More and more consumers are using their phones to find local businesses.

In fact, there are about 1.5 billion “near me” searches worldwide each month, with a remarkable 85% of these searches coming from mobile devices. This trend in local search is directly influencing buying decisions.

What first place actually looks like

Here is a search for “HVAC Edmonton.” Google shows a few nearby companies first. If you are in those top results, people can call, get directions or visit your site right away.
The top three get the call. Ratings, hours, address and a Directions button are all right there, so most people never scroll past this block or open a website at all.
The goal is simple: get your business into the local results people see first, then make the profile strong enough that they choose you.

Features & Benefits

Unlock the power of local SEO for your business
More local people find you, trust you and contact you.

More people contact you

People can call, get directions or visit your website straight from Google.

Be there when they search

When someone searches “restaurants open now,” your business can show up at the moment they are deciding where to go.

Reach people who are ready to act

Somebody searching for a dentist near them has already decided to book. Hyper local SEO puts you in front of that person while they are still choosing, across the streets they are willing to travel.
Intent, not impressions

Show up on the map, not just the website

Most local searches end in the map pack, and plenty end in a phone call straight from it. We fix the profile, the categories and the service area so you appear on the map itself rather than a page somebody has to go looking for.
Where the taps happen

Look like the safe choice

People compare three businesses in about ten seconds, using stars, review count, opening hours and distance. We keep all four working in your favour, so the obvious pick is you.

Cheaper ground to win

Competing for a city-wide keyword is expensive and slow. The searches happening within a few blocks of your door are far less contested, and they convert better because the person is already nearby

Your ranking is not one number

People assume they either rank or they do not. In local search you rank differently on every street, because Google answers based on where the person is standing. You can be first outside your own door and thirteenth four blocks away.

We measure it the way it actually behaves: a grid of checkpoints across the area you serve, each one showing your position if somebody searched from exactly that spot.
How to read it. Each circle is one point on the map and the number is your position if someone searches from there. Green means you made the map pack. The dotted ring marks your address notice how fast the numbers fall off once you move away from it.
1–3 · you are in the map pack
4–10 · you exist, nobody sees you
11–20 · invisible
20+ · not found at all
This is why “we rank number one” is a meaningless claim on its own, and why the work is about widening the green area, not celebrating one good screenshot.

What decides the three spots

Google weighs three things. Only one of them is fixed, and the other two are the work.
01 · Proximity

Distance is contextual

How close the searcher is to the business at that moment.
02 · Relevance

Match the exact intent

Categories, services and content tell Google what you do.
03 · Prominence

Look established & trusted

Reviews, reputation and activity build the confidence signal.
You cannot move your building, but you can win the other two. Proximity is fixed. Relevance and prominence are what we build, and they are what stretch your green area further from your front door.
Google uses different algorithms for organic results and the map pack, so the strategies have to differ. Organic depends mostly on your website. The map pack depends more on location, your Google Business Profile and your reputation.

Your Google Business Profile is the engine

Almost every business has one. Almost nobody fills it in properly. Six parts do the heavy lifting, and each one is something Google reads and a customer judges you on.
One profile, two jobs. Google uses it to understand your business. Customers use it to decide whether to contact you.
1

Photos.

Recent, real pictures of the work and the premises. Profiles with fresh photos get noticeably more calls and direction requests.
2

Name and categories.

One primary category plus the right secondary ones. Pick the wrong primary and you disappear from searches you should own.
3

Reviews.

How many, how good, how recent, and whether you reply. The strongest signal you can influence.
4

Hours.

Including holidays and emergency availability. “Open now” filters out closed businesses before the customer even sees them.
5

Call and directions buttons.

These are the conversions. We track taps on them, not just website visits.
6

Services, posts and Q&A.

The parts nobody fills in. They tell Google exactly what you do and answer the questions customers ask before calling.

What lands in your inbox every month

No jargon and no vanity numbers. The same grid, run again, so you can see the green spreading — plus how many new reviews came in and how many calls, messages and direction taps that produced.
Month one. Amber and red almost everywhere. The business exists, but nobody searching nearby sees it.
Three months later. Solid green. Every checkpoint across the service area now returns the business inside the map pack.

4–10 · you exist, nobody sees you

If a number moved, we tell you why. If something needs a decision from you, it is at the top of the page. Figures shown are an illustration — your own starting point and pace depend on your market and competition.

FAQ

Answered questions.

Everything you might want to know about hyper local SEO, up front.

1
How long before I see the map pack?
Profile and listing fixes often move things within a few weeks. Competitive terms in a big city take a few months to build, but once you hold a position it tends to stay.
2
I do not have a storefront. Can I still rank?
Yes. You need a verified Google Business Profile, but businesses that travel to customers can hide their address and rank across a service area instead. We set it up for the way you actually work.
3
Why does my ranking change depending on where I check from?
Because that is how Google works. Distance is one of the three ranking factors, so your position moves street by street. That is why we track a grid across your whole service area instead of one search from the office.
4
How much do reviews really matter?
A lot. How many you have, how good they are and how recent they are all feed the ranking, and they are the first thing a customer looks at. We make asking automatic so they keep arriving.
5
Is this different from Google Ads?
Completely. Ads buy the spot and stop the moment you stop paying. This earns it. Many clients run both: ads for immediate coverage while the rankings build.
6
How does it fit with your other services?
Local SEO wins the map and “near me” searches. SEO wins the organic results underneath. Google My Business, reviews and paid advertising all feed the same local presence, and most local businesses run at least two together.
